K-pop girl group Red Velvet is dominating music charts around the world with their much-awaited comeback "Queendom" on Monday, August 16.
The 5-piece girl group released their sixth mini-album “Queendom” along with a music video for the title track of the same name.
"Queendom" is a pop dance song with the message that we are all 'Queens' of our lives and that together, we shine more beautifully."
Following the album’s release, “Queendom” topped iTunes Top Albums charts in 50 regions around the globe including the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, Norway, United Arab Emirates, Spain, Singapore, Cambodia, Egypt, Brunei, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, and others.
Furthermore, the new album ranked No. 1 on the digital album sales charts for China’s QQ Music and KuGou Music. The album’s title track “Queendom” also placed No. 1 on music streaming sites such as Genie, Bugs, Vibe, and Momople, while the rest of the tracks in the album followed closely behind on the charts.
The hashtag #QueendomCome immediately trended on Twitter worldwide.
Red Velvet's new album comes nearly 2 years since their 2019 repackaged album “The ReVe Festival: Finale” and its hit title track “Psycho.”
The group took hiatus in the first quarter of 2020 following Wendy's stage incident in December.
Since then, the members have been promoting both individually and together.
Irene & Seulgi made a successful unit debut with “Monster,” followed by Wendy releasing her solo debut album “Like Water” after returning from her year-long hiatus. She is the first member to debut as a solo.
Joy also made her successful solo debut with the remake album “Hello."
The group's maknae, Yeri, meanwhile officially made her acting debut.
Debuted in 2014, the girl group has since released hit songs such as Dumb Dumb, Red Flavor, Russian Roulette, Bad Boy, and Psycho.
The group last visited Manila in June 2019 for the K-pop World Music Festival.
